The olive tree and olive wood have been considered sacred by a variety of cultures dating back at least to pre-Biblical times. The olive branch is considered a symbol of peace, and the fruit of the olive tree has helped sustain many civilizations. Olive wood, then, is understandably very special.

There just isn't anything quite like olive wood. It has a very distinct swirled grain pattern that is quite simply beautiful.

Every year the olive trees of Bethlehem are pruned so that they bear fruit an essential process which allows a new and healthier growth for the trees and to generate environmental stability. No Tree was damaged or destroyed in the process of harvesting the wood.

Bethlehem olive wood is heavy, dense and durable with a distinctive red

pigment in its grain. All carvings made of this hard wood have a varying and smooth grain, making every piece extraordinarily unique. It is very difficult to match the grain of two pieces since the pattern is completely hidden in the heart of the wood. As it ages, it will become darker and richer in color thus making it even more beautiful.

Our olive wood beads are made from the trimmings of the oldest olive trees in Bethlehem also called the Roman Trees they got their Roman name because they have been living in Bethlehem and bearing fruits since Jesus and the Romans time some of the tress are over 2000 years old.

Note: All our beads are only made from the heart of the Bethlehem olive wood because the heart of the olive wood has darker grains and has the most color.
